Music Inc. is an album by American jazz trumpeter Charles Tolliver's Music Inc. with a Big Band recorded in 1970 and first released on the Strata-East label.

Reception

The Allmusic review by Jason Ankeny awarded the album 4½ stars stating "The remarkable Music, Inc. Big Band remains the apotheosis of trumpeter Charles Tolliver's singular creative vision. Rarely if ever has a big band exhibited so much freedom or finesse, while at the same time never overwhelming the virtuoso soloists on whom the performances pivots".

Gummy bear

A gummy bear (German: Gummibär) is a small, fruit gum candy, similar to a jelly baby in some English-speaking countries. The candy is roughly 2 cm (0.8 in) long and shaped in the form of a bear. The gummy bear is one of many gummies, popular gelatin-based candies sold in a variety of shapes and colors.

History

The gummy bear originated in Germany, where it is popular under the name Gummibär (gum or gummy bear) or in the endearing form Gummibärchen ([little] gum or gummy bear), gum arabic was the original base ingredient used to produce the gummy bears, hence the name gum or gummy. Hans Riegel, Sr., a confectioner from Bonn, started the Haribo company in 1920. In 1922, inspired by the trained bears seen at street festivities and markets in Europe through to the 19th century, he invented the Dancing Bear (Tanzbär), a small, affordable, fruit-flavored gum candy treat for children and adults alike, which was much larger in form than its later successor, the Gold-Bear (Goldbär). Even during Weimar Germany's hyperinflation period that wreaked havoc on the country, Haribo's fruit-gum Dancing Bear treats remained affordably priced for a mere 1 Pfennig, in pairs, at kiosks. The success of the Dancing Bear's successor would later become Haribo's world-famous Gold-Bears candy product in 1967.

Billboard Hot 100

The Billboard Hot 100 is the music industry standard record chart in the United States for singles, published weekly by Billboard magazine. Chart rankings are based on radio play, online streaming, and sales (physical and digital).

The weekly sales period was originally Monday to Sunday when Nielsen started tracking sales in 1991, but since July 2015, this has been changed from Friday to Thursday. Radio airplay, which unlike sales figures and streaming data, is readily available on a real-time basis and is tracked on a Monday to Sunday cycle (it was previously Wednesday to Tuesday). A new chart is compiled and officially released to the public by Billboard on Tuesdays. Example:

Music recording sales certification

Music recording sales certification is a system of certifying that a music recording has shipped or sold a certain number of copies. The threshold quantity varies by type (such as album, single, music video) and by nation or territory (see List of music recording certifications).

Almost all countries follow variations of the RIAA certification categories, which are named after precious materials.

The number of sales or shipments required for these awards depends upon the population of the territory in which the recording is released. Typically, they are awarded only to international releases and are awarded individually for each country in which the album is sold. Different sales levels, some perhaps 10 times lower than others, may exist for different music media (for example: videos versus albums, singles, or downloads).

History

The original gold record awards were presented to artists by their own record companies to publicize their sales achievements. The first of these was awarded by RCA Victor to Glenn Miller in February 1942, celebrating the sale of 1.2 million copies of "Chattanooga Choo Choo". Another example of a company award is the gold record awarded to Elvis Presley in 1956 for one million units sold of his single "Don't Be Cruel". The first gold record for an LP was awarded by RCA Victor to Harry Belafonte in 1957 for the album Calypso (1956), the first album to sell over 1,000,000 copies in RCA's reckoning.

Jasmin and her best friend Sarah were hanging out at Jasmin's house - BORED - and trying to figure out what to do. This is a true story that begins just like so many others. They shared a few ideas that went nowhere, then Sarah got a devilish look in her eye and jumped off the bed. She suggested that they make a fake Twitter account of a science teacher from their school. Jasmin was confused at first - why would they do that? But also a little bit curious - how could they do that? And Sarah explained, it's not like they were going to harass or cyberbully the teacher, NO, it's just that he didn't have an account and they were simply going to make one for him and see what happened. Jasmin was still nervous about it, and asked Sarah if they could get in any trouble for making a fake account, and Sarah said no, and that they would just delete the Twitter account after they were done. So, they get to work making the fake account. They create a profile for him, and post pictures with hashtags that they find of him at school and on field trips and on Google. Then, they start following everyone - absolutely everyone from school, the teachers, the school, the teachers' husbands and wives.... And it works - they fool everyone. Everyone thinks the teacher's fake account it real, and so it's not long before teachers and other people start messaging Jasmin and Sarah, thinking it's the science teacher. They ask what he's doing over the weekend, and some want to make plans and hang out. It was just like Jasmin and her friends texting and messaging each other and making plans, except it was the adult teacher version of it - funny. They weren't quite sure what to do at that point, so they just went with it and pretended to be him - responded to the direct messages he was getting. They wrote stuff like "sorry, I'm busy all weekend," and "Hey there, great to connect." That all happened on a Friday night - and needless to say they didn't delete the account right after they were done. On Monday, at school and in between classes, Jasmin and Sarah overheard conversations going on in the Teachers Lounge. Oh no! The teachers were all asking that science teacher about his Twitter account, and whether it was really him. They heard him tell the other teachers that no, he didn't have an account, and then one teacher - sounding kind of mean and angry - almost shouting, said WE THINK SOMEONE MADE A FAKE ACCOUNT! Was it a prank? Was it cyberbullying? Was it a hacker? Who knew, all anyone knew is that is was a fake social media account. And that is was illegal and they needed to notify the police to find out who did it. All day in class, in their classrooms in the school, Jasmin and Sarah were totally freaked out - so scared - and vowed to each other that the minute they got home they would delete the account. What they thought was really funny at first, turned out to be not funny at all. They were scared, and anxiety was kicking in. But, when Jasmin's bus pulled up in front of her house there was a police car in the driveway - A POLICE CAR! She walked in, and just straight up a police officer asked her - "so, is it true you made this fake account of your teacher?" She didn't know what to say - was so nervous, thinking about Sarah and whether she was at her house with the police asking her the same questions. Finally, they talked it out of her, and she admitted, "yeah - it was me." They didn't seem at all surprised. This was a prank gone wrong, a really wrong decision, fake social media, potentially cyberbullying, illegal, hurtful and wrong. Her parents were so mad. She and her friend got into real trouble. Jasmin had to go see the principal, and she got a three-day suspension, some detention and except for all the work she missed and had to make up, it was better then she had thought it would be. The locations depicted in the film are digital recreations of actual places in the Solar System, built from real photos and map data where available. Without any apparent story, other than what you may fill in by yourself, the idea of the film is primarily to show a glimpse of the fantastic and beautiful nature that surrounds us on our neighboring worlds - and above all, how it might appear to us if we were there. As some may notice I have borrowed ideas and concepts from science fiction authors such as Kim Stanley Robinson and Arthur C. Clarke, just to name a few. And visually, I of course owe many tips of my hat to painter Chesley Bonestell - the legendary master of space art. The only completely unedited version of "Levels" online. This IS the directors cut. Hype Williams is once again setting out to reinvent what is expected from hip hop music videos. So this is an unusual one. Hype came to me and said, "I'm shooting a video with Meek Mill and Rick Ross for you to edit... and there will be zero performance." Now as someone who constantly has to see the same cliche music videos with the same uninspired footage I was intrigued by the prospect. If people want to see an artist perform, they can go to a concert. Music Videos should always serve as visual artistic expressions of the track it supports and there is no rule that says that has to include a performance. What followed from that conversation was Hype traveling from Miami, to New York to Connecticut shooting for 8 days or so. After its initial release some tried to claim stock footage was utilized, I assure you Hype personally shot every frame (Including the muzzle flashes. We had Uzis and AR15's full of blanks firing in our offices the last night of editing) The resulting video is a giant metaphor both about the song and a commentary on the current state of hip hop music videos. People have said things like, "Its not a music video, it's one big advertisement" They're both right and wrong. Just about every music video in the last 6 to8 years has been an advertisement. No large videos get made without corporate sponsor dollars. Hype just decided why sugar coat it? Show it for what it is and the levels it represents. So this is what we created in the editing room. A video we knew most would hate, but most people simply don't like change. (It should be noted the artist and label love it) Some call it different and generic in the same sentence. The ever popular, "I pictured something different for this track." is thrown around. I can say this, Hype only puts his name at the head of music videos he feel truly stand out, and he placed his name on this. So I ask you, watch with an open mind. Pay close attention, no image is random. You may not love it and thats ok... there are after all levels to this shit.

Ever since finishing my last short film, Above LA, I’ve wanted to go higher. But not just higher ground. Only a helicopter could give me the freedom and control I needed to capture the city from new heights. And not a drone - this was a job for the real thing. I’ve spent a lot of time in the air recently working on some new techniques for capturing unique aerial footage, but in the mean time, I wanted to show the city in live and slow-motion video in a way few people get to see it. My favorite time to photograph the city is when the sun goes down and the lights come up. But accomplishing this in the air is something that typically requires a lot of money - expensive stabilization platforms and one of a few low-light sensitive cinema cameras. Until now. The recently released Sony a7S packs some incredible low light ability, all in a tiny and relatively inexpensive DSLR body. I knew this was the camera I needed to capture live and high-speed video at night. Armed with a rented a7S and an expert pilot, I hit the skies for a whirlwind tour of Los Angeles - from downtown to Hollywood, Century City to Santa Monica, LAX to the freeways - all captured with the camera rolling. I am very excited to share with you some of what I captured. Thanks to this camera’s ability to literally see in the dark and the skill of an excellent pilot, we were able to showcase many LA landmarks and neighborhoods with high quality images filled with detail. I hope you enjoy it! - ** CAMERA DETAILS ** All footage captured at 1080p60 with ISO ranging from 20,000 to 51,200. Lenses: Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L II, Canon 24-105 f/4L IS Much of this material was captured at ISO 51,200, which does produce noise, but is well controlled and easy to minimize or remove in post. I really pushed this camera to its limits - shooting at 1080p60 (which has been shown to be less sharp and with increased moire and aliasing than at 24p), on a lens that is not tack sharp, and at incredibly high ISO - and it still produced some remarkable results. Needless to say, I am beyond impressed with this camera and would have no hesitation for using it in video work. The first three shots were captured with no picture profile set (I set it to S-Log 2 before flight, but somehow it ended up with no profile set).
